ALL GROWN UP

Designed with Megan Pesce Interiors

Dark, dated finishes and a center island cooktop/hood signaled a 1990s builder’s special interior. This young family wanted the island as a gathering place and a light-filled interior. They wished to craft the space so that they could be the go-to house for kids and adults as they went through the grade-school years. With the designer — who was also the client — we laid out the new space and chose colors and finishes. She was willing to be bold and modern and we were up to the task!

We removed the 4 large columns that once separated the family room and dining area and re-imagined the floor level change as a pair of thoughtful built-in workspaces for their boys. It is always important to give a visual demarcation to a step-down in an unexpected location. The fireplace wall was also transformed to include elegantly lit display space. Notice the solid stone wall behind the TV and fireplace and the birch bark wallpaper on the ceiling — it all works so well!
