CENTURY OLD CENTERPIECE

Designed with Sacris Design

This client’s kitchen cabinets were in very good shape for being 25 years old and they asked us to think creatively about how to keep them so that they could devote their budget to other areas. The designer was also on board but wanted the focus to be pulled away from the older cabinets and to other portions of the room. The stunning island — imagined to be detailed like a century-old French stove became the center piece of the kitchen. It was then accompanied by a contrasting wet bar with bronze screened doors and painted finishes.

The new, larger island now accommodates counter seating and a much larger prep space. Massive drawers under the 36" cooktop hold every pot and pan while the spices, oils, and utensils are all neatly organized to the right (as the client is right-handed).

Not wanting the pantry to be an afterthought — the designer asked if we could build an oak cabinet reminiscent of a 1910 icebox. The hardware was key to pulling this off — each hinge weighs about four pounds and the latches are three times that. Each door of the stunning quarter-sawn oak pantry is able to carry another 100 pounds of canned goods and supplies.
